DOMINANT FREQUENCY
Dominant Frequency measures the dominant frequency of the selected range of brainwave
frequencies, i.e. the frequency in the selected range that has the most power. The FFT is the
source for the frequency information. Dominant frequency can be used in two ways. It can
measure gross trends of brainwave frequency within a session. Alternatively it can also be
used to measure gradual relocation of frequencies within a particular band. As an example of
the latter, it is observed that meditaters tend to produce a downshift in the dominant alpha
frequency the longer they meditate (usually measured in years). Power in Passband and Ratio
of Power in Passband are generally more useful indicators of states of consciousness.
